Gay Strandemo, a librarian in Westport, Wisconsin, began telling her children about the Jolasveinar when they were very young. She decided to write their story and drew her new vision of what each Yule boy looked like. While the charming visions of other artists depicted the Yule boys as old, gnarly men, Ms. Strandemo drew on her Icelandic heritage, the Sagas and her imagination to depict the youthful exuberance of the mischievous lads.
